Campbell Playhouse was a 60-minute adaptation of popular motion pictures, novels, and classical plays. Orson Welles’ direction of the 1938 Halloween production of The War of the Worlds starring Edgar Barrier, Georgia Backus, Bea Benaderet, Ray Collins, George Coulouris, Agnes Moorehead, Frank Readick, and Everett Sloane became the front-page headline. This led to the generation of a sponsor in the form of Campbell Soup. On December 9, 1938, Campbell Playhouse replaced The Mercury Theatre on the Air. The show had its debut using Welles' adaptation of Rebecca with guest stars Mildred Natwick and Margaret Sullavan.  The production of the show changed from New York to Los Angeles in November 1939.

ABOUT OLD TIME RADIO
The buzz-term for Old Time Radio is "OTR". OTR usually means radio broadcasting from the golden age of radio, mostly before 1964.These shows from the pre-television age include adventure, comedies, mystery shows, western dramas and shows from World War II. These programs feature the best talent of the day and were broadcast nearly as widely as cable programs today. And just like TV today, families would gather around their crystal radio sets to enjoy the entertainment together.
