Born in Nikopol, Russia 8/5/1890; died 1/10/1972 following a long illness in New York City. He came to America in 1895 with his family, settling in Baltimore, Maryland. He received his music education on a scholarship at Peabody Conservatory. He began his career as a piano player and song plugger. In 1916 he began composing and conducting for stage. Recording artist on Brunswick, Columbia and RCA Victor record labels. He made his radio debut in 1931 on The Chrysler Hour.
