Shane is among my favorite of Allen Ladd movies. Also This Gun For Hire, The Blue Dahlia, The McConnell Story, and The Carpet Baggers. There was often a hint of sadness in his performances. I loved that wistful, beautiful face.

Ladd, Alan (birth name was Alan Wallbridge Ladd) Born in Hot Springs, Arkansas 9/3/1913; died 1/29/1964 of a cerebral edema in Palm Springs, California. Married and divorced to Marjorie Jane Harrold (1936-1941); his agent Sue Carol (1942-1964 his death). Swimmer at the Hollywood Athletic Club. West Coast diving Champion of 1933. On screen for ten years in bit roles (including 1932's Once In A Lifetime), before he became a leading man with This Gun For Hire (1942). Last movie was The Carpetbaggers (1964).

Alan Ladd and Bernie Joslin owned Mayfair Productions, the producers/syndicators of radio programs including The Damon Runyon Theatre (1948-1949); Box 13 from 1948 until sometime during the early 1950's. Ladd also played Dan Holiday on the Box 13 series. Ladd was a guest star on television programs including General Electric Theater for CBS (1953-1962).

This gun for hire, Glass key, Blue Dahlia, Whispering Smith, Branded, Red Mountain, Shane, Drumbeat, Hell below zero, Badlanders, Proud Rebel, and his last released after his death Carpetbaggers. He died at 50 Jan29,1964. He suffered from Depression, Anxiety Alcoholism. He died from a mixture of sedatives sleeping pills and a mix of Alcohol. I'm not sure if it was intentional? But 2 years before accidentally shot himself when thinking he heard a trespasser.
