Spoiler : Born in New Haven, Connecticutt 3/17/1901; died 2/17/1970 of emphysema in Los Angeles, California. Married to Martha Montgomery (1947-1970 his death). Brother of composer Lionel Newman. Father of composers Thomas, Maria and David Newman. Piano soloist at New York's Strand Theatre at age 13. Moved to Hollywood in 1930. Newman provided Academy Award winning scores for movies including The Song Of Bernadette (1943). He has been nominated more times for Oscars in movies than anyone ever has, even in death his compositions have received nominations in the current century. He composed the 20th Century Pictures logo theme. It was still used when the company merged with Fox films to become 20th Century-Fox, and is still used today in the 2000s.
