Spoiler : actor ALVIN CHILDRESS (1907 – 1986), who was born on September 10th. He is best known for playing the cabdriver Amos Jones in the 1950s television comedy series Amos 'n Andy. Childress also appeared in roles on the television series Perry Mason, Sanford and Son, Good Times and The Jeffersons and in the films Thunderbolt and Lightfoot (1974) and The Day of the Locust (1975).

African-American character actor who made his stage debut in Savage Rhythm (1931). On screen with movies made for black audiences beginning in the 1930's. Amos Jones on The Amos And Andy Show for CBS-TV (1951-1953). Following the end of that series, Childress became an employment interviewer for the Los Angeles County until his retirement. In the 1970's he did some cameo roles on television programs including Sanford And Son, Fish and Good Times.
