Spoiler : Andy Devine! At first it was thought his wheezy whiny voice might keep him from acting it quickly became his trademark. He acted in over 400 films as well as doing radio and TV. Best known as Guy Madison's sidekick, Jingles, on The Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok Devine was also a regular in the Western episodes of The Jack Benny Program.

Spoiler : Andy Devine was a good character actor. He played some serious roles as well but few. My favorite of his roles was in Pete Kelly's Blues, a Jack Webb movie.

Spoiler : Devine, Andy (birth name was Jeremiah Schwartz) Born in Flagstaff, Arizona 10/7/1905; died 2/20/1977 of leukemia in Orange, California. Devine's grandfather was Admiral James Harmon Ward (one of the founders of the Annapolis Naval Academy). Married to actress Dorothy Irene House (1933-his death). Devine's raspy voice came from falling on a curtain rod, driving it into the roof of his mouth when he was a child. Screen debut in two reeler movies including The Collegians in 1926. Last movie was providing his voice for the frog in The Mouse And His Child (1977).

Spoiler : For television, Devine reprised his role of Jingles on the syndicated television series, The Adventures Of Wild Bill Hickok (1951-1958). Following Ed McConnell's death in 1954, Devine took over McConnell's program (Smilin' Ed's Buster Brown Gang). The program was retitled to Andy's Gang with Devine as the host of the Saturday morning television program that was mostly telecast as a local show in Los Angeles (1954-1960); full NBC-TV Network (1957-1958). Hap Gorman on Flipper for NBC-TV (1964-1965).
