Born New York City 2/28/1894; died 4/18/1964 of a heart attack in New York City. Hecht began his career as a reporter for the Chicago Journal, then the Chicago Daily News. Founder/publisher of the Chicago Literary Times (1923-25). Screenwrighter for many movies including Wuthering Heights (1939); Spellbound (1945); Notorious (1946). Movie producer for many including Soak The Rich (1936). Member of playwrighting team of Hecht-MacArthur. The team wrote a book that was the basis of, "The Jumbo Fire Chief Program" on NBC-Radio starring Ed Wynn (1935-1936). Team wrote the play, "The Front Page" which was adapted to ABC-Radio (1948) and CBS-TV (1949). Hecht was the narrator for, "Willy's Theatre Presenting Ben Hecht's Tales Of The City" on CBS-TV (1953).
