Katz, Bernard (birth name was Joseph Bernard Katz) Born in San Francisco, California ca 1909; died 5/22/1992 at age 82. Cousin of actor Mel Blanc. In 1923, after attending an Al Jolson performance, Katz began playing piano for Jolson when Jolson's regular piano player got ill.

By the late 1920s, Katz was performing on local San Francisco radio station KJBS. By 1932, he joined NBC as a staff pianist. From 1937 to 1938, he performed on KHJ-Hollywood, and was host and star of his own weekly Mutual Radio program called Katz on the Keys.

Katz provided music for radio programs including Mayor Of The Town on CBS (1945); This Is My Best on CBS (1945); The Cresta Blanca Hollywood Players on CBS (1946-1947); Hollywood Star Preview on NBC (1947-1950). Katz retired from broadcasting in 1950.

Bernard Katz, known as Bernie, was my grandfather. His first job as a musical director was on Point Sublime. He wrote the theme music for the show and worked with Cliff Arquette, Charlie Weaver and his first cousin Mel Blanc.
