Born in Dumfries, Scotland 4/18/1887; died 10/12/1978 in Los Angeles, California. He was educated in music beginning at age seven. At age twelve his family moved to America. He spent his early years as a violinist and singer in his church choir, later was a piano salesman in Hastings, Nebraska, and began his broadcasting career there in 1923 on KFKX, as an announcer, and later a program director. He moved to Chicago in 1924 where he was an announcer at WGN, later station manager.

While at WGN, he met Freeman Gosden and Charles Correll, forming a friendship and long association as announcer for their Sam and Henry program on WGN, then Amos N' Andy on WMAQ- Chicago, and the NBC and CBS Radio Networks (1928-ca early 1940s).

Jack

Hay was sales manager for WMAQ-Chicago, and announcer for The Goldbergs. In 1940, Hay suffered a heart attack, which limited his broadcasting career.
