Spoiler : Just setup my old Dual turntable and had to play the 1967 recording of the American Youth Band and Chorus that I toured with the summer of 1967. I remember well listening to and accompanying William Dupree who toured with us that summer. What a voice!! And a very down to earth soul with a smile that made you feel comfortable instantly. Enjoyed it Bill. RIP

Wish I could contact his family because I know from my father William did a lot of research into his ( and ours) family tree.

Spoiler : My best friend and I were young teenagers when we got a ride into Washington DC to try out for the chorus in the Opera Faust. We performed at Carter Baron Amphitheater and the year was about 1963? William Dupree had the tenor role and I still remember all these years later his magnificent voice. He was also the nicest man. Think I owe my love of opera to William Dupree. Pam Chaconas

Spoiler : More commonly known as William DuPree. He was born in Roanoke, Virginia on August 7, 1929. Following college at Howard University he joined the Air Force and eventually became tenor soloist with the U.S. Air Force Band, he also sang in a group known as the Singing Sergeants. He played the character "Joe" in the musical Carmen Jones with Muriel Smith. He was also an internationally known opera singer. He died on May 24, 1985 in Brussels, Belgium.

Spoiler : I was Marjorie O'Connor,at the time when I was in the American Youth Choir & Band when I felt blessed to be in the back-up choir when Bill sang his great solo with us He had great strength,warmth,& style every time he sang . We toured with him in 1965.Our group practiced in Washington DC.& made a recording there;besides giving a concert at the Watergate Bridge. Our group stayed at George Washington University dorms for a week before embarking on out European Tour with the Choral Director.two band directors, tour guide, counselors, add Bill Dupree. Our European Tour, consisted of going to Paris,London.Scotland,Switzerland,the airport at Shannon,Ireland,& Belgium. I am very glad My mom,went as a counselor,the following year. Spoiler : Is there anyone who can tell me more about William, als known as Bill, or Billie DuPree ? I would love to have a picture of him. He should be family.. he met my dad, at the Opera in Ghent, Belgium, and they found out they were related. I know from my father william was very interested in finding his familyroots (he found we were iriginaloy French, and he went back and found us from 1600 onwards. Is there any family from William that can help ?
