Born in Washington, D.C. 11/4/1906; died 9/25/1975 from complications of a stroke in New York City. Married to columnist Millie (1931-?). Never attended college. He began his career as a tennis reporter for a Washington newspaper in 1927 (got the job after going to the newspaper office to complain about the miss-spelling of his name in an article in the paper).
