Burton Stephen "Burt" Lancaster was an American film actor. Initially known for playing "tough guys", Lancaster went on to achieve success with more complex and challenging roles. He was nominated four times for Academy Awards and won once for his work in Elmer Gantry in 1960. He also won a Golden Globe for that performance and BAFTA Awards for The Birdman of Alcatraz (1962) and Atlantic City (1980). During the 1950s his production company Hecht-Hill-Lancaster was highly successful, making films such as Trapeze (1956), Sweet Smell of Success (1957), Run Silent, Run Deep (1958), and Separate Tables (1958). Loved all his performances. Birdman of Alcatraz and From here to Eternity. Can't remember the name of film, he played a reporter who used his column to destroy people, he had a sister, with an unhealthy need to keep her for himself. Tony Curtis was trying to break his power. It was so against his sweet nature, but such a powerful performance. His circus act was good. But I think in growing up, he worked in a circus. He was good friends with his fellow stars, who always spoke fondly of him. He was very good as an older gangster, who liked a very young Susan Sarandon, a young waitress. Can't remember the name of film. Very underrated actor.

I love Burt Lancasters'acting. So hard to pick one film, because he made so many good ones. One of the first films I saw, was "Trapeze". Incredible drama ! It was an accurate depiction of the life of circus workers, as well as the history of circus making, at the time.
