Born in Rochester, New York 12/25/1907; died 11/18/1994 in a Hockessin, Dela- ware nursing home. Calloway never recovered from a stroke he suffered in 1994 at his White Plains, New York home. While attending law school was a singer in The Alabamians band. Took over the band in 1928, then became the leader of The Missourians at Harlem's Cotton Club in 1929 before forming his own band. The "Royal Highness of Hi-de-ho" as he was nicknamed, had a 65 year career as an actor, singer and songwriter (Minnie The Moocher, The Jumpin' Jive and many more). On screen with his band in he Big Broadcast (1932). By 1958 was a solo performer. Wrote his autobiography, Of Minnie Moocher And Me in 1976. Appeared on many radio band remotes from the Club Zanzibar during the 30's and 40's.
Guest star on many television programs including Vincent Lopez on DuMont
(1949), The Kreisler Bandstand (1951), The Nat "King" Cole Show for NBC (1956- 1957), The Chuck Barris Rah Rah Show in 1978 and The Love Boat for ABC (1982).
