Big Band leader of the 1940's that began his career as a pianist in bands of Abe Lyman and Rudy Vallee, then formed his own orchestra in 1939. Composer of tunes including Wanda, Masquerade Waltz and While The Nightwind Sings. Nicknamed, "The Poet of the Piano." Pianist for the 1956 movie, The Eddy Duchin Story. Featured on radio programs from the 1930's. Host and star of his own radio program called The Poet of the Piano and His Orchestra on NBC-BLUE (1941-1942); The Shaeffer Revue on NBC (1945-1947); Tums Tune Time on NBC (1948); Duet In Rhythm (1956).
