Born in Pawnee, Oklahoma 11/20/1900; died 5/11/1985 in Woodstock, Illinois. Married to Eto dna Gauger (1926-?). Cartoonist for Hearst Publications (1924- 1929), Chicago Tribune (1931). Created the newspaper comic strip, Dick Tracy that began 10/4/1931. The comic strip was adapted to radio on the Mutual, NBC and ABC Networks (1935-1948); ABC-TV starring Ralph Byrd (1950-1951).
