Married to Adele Dwyer (?-?); Pamela Wilde (?-1961 her death by suicide). Trained at the NBC New York announcer school and finished 23rd in a class of 24. Garroway began his radio career as an announcer at KDKA-Pitts-burgh (1938-1940), then WMAQ-Chicago (1940-1942). Served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and spent his off duty hours as a Honolulu disk jockey. Following WWII became a disc jockey on the 11:60 Club (1945-1946).
