Haymes, Dick (birth name was Richard Benjamin Haymes)
Born in Argentina 9/13/1918; died 3/28/1980 of lung cancer in Los Angeles, California. Brother of vocalist Bob Haymes. Seven wives include Edith Harper (1939-annuled; Frances Makris (?-?); actress Joanne Dru (1941-1949); Nora Eddington (1949-1953); actress Rita Hayworth (1953-1955); actress Fran Jeffries, (1956-1965); Windy Smith (1965-1980 his death). Educated in Europe and the Loyola University in Montreal, Canada. He moved to Hollywood, working briefly as a stuntman, then he was a radio announcer, leader of a band called The Katzenjammers, then was a singer with bands of Bunny Berigan; Tommy Dorsey; Carl Hoff; Freddie Martin; Orrin Tucker; Benny Goodman; Harry James in 1939. Screen debut with an uncredited roles in Mutiny on the Bounty (1935), and Dramatic School (1938), then played Lieutenant Dick Ryan in Four Jills in a Jeep (1944). Last movie was playing James Crawford in Won Ton Ton, the Dog Who Saved Hollywood (1976). Recording artist on the Decca lrecord label, his recordings of "Little White Lies" have sold over two million copies.

Haymes used his alien status to avoid military service during WWII, a decision that came back to haunt him, later as financial and alcohol problems led to deportation proceedings, he never was deported, but lived outside America until 1973 when he made a brief comeback in Las Vegas with the comedy team of Rowan and Martin. Once a wealth man, that was married six times, he died alone and penniless.
