Joy, Dick (birth name was Richard W. Joy)
Born in Putnam, Connecticut 12/28/1915; died 10/31/1991. Following high school, Joy moved to California where he attended the National School of Broadcasting and The University of Southern California.

In 1936, while still in college, he began working part time as an announcer. He broadcast the 1936 New Year's Eve festivities for Mutual, then worked briefly as a staff announcer for KEHE (now KABC)-Los Angeles. In 1937, he became a newscaster and morning announcer on KNX-CBS-Los Angeles. He stayed at KNX-CBS-Los Angeles, until he joined the US Navy to serve during WWII. Following his discharge, he returned to broadcasting as a free-lance announcer, and became co- owner of station KCMJ-Palm Springs, California.

Joy was the television voice in the 1950 movie, To Please A Lady (aka Red Hot Wheels). During later years of his career, Joy was news director and newscaster for KFAC-Los Angeles, and he was an announcer on many television programs during the 1950s to 1969 when he was forced to retire due to healt problems.
