Dowd, Don (birth name was Donald Maurer Dowd)
Born in Pennsylvania 3/22/1905; died 2/22/1977 in Punta Gorda, Florida. Dowd attended Penn State College where he was known as the, "singing grapler" in token of his many trophies as intramural collegiate wrestling champion and lead solos with the college chorus. He moved to Athens, Ohio where he graduated from the Ohio University with a Bachelor of Music degree. Dowd began his radio career as an announcer at a Mansfield, Ohio station (1930). One of several hosts for the WLW-Cincinnati radio program, Moon River during the 1930's and 1940's. One of several radio announcers for The Breakfast Club (twelve years) on NBC and ABC (1933-1968); In Care of Aggie Horn (1941-?). Host of Black Night on ABC-Radio (1951).
