Born in Piedmont, West Virginia 7/29/1900; died 11/30/1964 in New York City. Attended Storer's College at age fourteen. African-American saxophonist with bands including Paul Whiteman. Leader of Don Redman and His Orchestra, in 1932 his band became the first black band to be on a sponsored radio show.
