Spoiler : Born in Los Angeles, California; died 12/15/2003 at age 88 of cancer at his home in Tarzana, California. Reed began his career in radio covering dance bands. Served in the Army Air Corp during WWII in North Africa as a B-17 bomber navigator. Reporter on Nightwatch (1954-1955). Reed was a ride-along reporter with the Culver City Police, reporting on crimes as they happened. The program was a radio COPS program like we see today on FOX-TV.

Spoiler : In the late 1950s, Reed and his business partner, Max Schumacher, a pilot during the Korean war, launched AirWatch, which contracted with KABC to run airborne traffic reports every 15 minutes during the evening rush hour. Following the end of rush hour, Reed would report the news until midnight, signing off as, "Donn Reed, Nightside" on KABC-Los Angeles. A 1958 helicopter crash that severly injured Reed and Schumacher ended Reed's traffic reporting days. Schumacher died in a midair collision near Dodger Stadium in 1966. Reed was reporter and host of Nightside on KMPC-Los Angeles (1961-1981). Following his retirement from broadcasting in 1986, Reed taught broadcast journalism at Santa Monica College.
