Spoiler : Dorothy Kilgallen! Writer of a syndicated newspaper column, Kilgallen also hosted a radio program with husband Richard "Boston Blackie" Kollmar called Breakfast with Dorothy and Dick. Later in her career, she was a panelist on the game show What's My Line? Her work as an investigative reporter is brought to life in an episode of Radio Spirits' 6 CD Big Story collection, featuring dramatizations of the best efforts of journalists from around the country

Spoiler : Dorothy Kilgallen was dating singer Johnny Ray, and doing an expose on the death of JFK. A few days after talking to someone that maybe she shouldn't have, she was found dead in her apartment...the cause of death was unknown, but later changed to suicide.

Spoiler : Kilgallen, Dorothy (birth name was Dorothy Mae Kilgallen) Born in Chicago, Illinois 7/3/1913; died 11/8/1965 of a heart attack (some sources state of suicide with a mixture of seconal and alcohol, while other sources say murder because she had found information on President Kennedy's assassination which she was going to report on) in New York City. Daughter of Hearst newspaper reporter James L. Kilgallen. Married to Richard Kollmar (1940-1965 her death). Kilgallen graduated from Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn, New York, then attended New Rochelle College. She took a summer job as a cub reporter for The New York Evening Journal (later named The New York Journal American) in 1931. She liked reporting so much, she quit college to work full time reporting on politics, crime and courtroom trials.At age 20 she had ber own byline, at age 26 represented her newspaper in a round-the-world commercial air competition, for which she came in second in a three-way race following a 24-day journey. In 1937 she had her own gossip column called Hollywood Scene, then in 1938 she began her Voice of Broadway column.

Spoiler : Screen debut playing reporter Jane Mills in Sinner Take All (1936). Kilgallen is credited with having the idea that was developed into the 1937 movie, Fly Away Baby. Last movie was with an uncredited role in Pajama Party (1964).

Panelist on radio programs including Leave It To The Girls for Mutual (1945-1949); What's My Line? for NBC and CBS (1952-1953). Co-host (with husband Dick Kollmar) of Breakfast With Dorothy And Dick on WOR-New York (1945-1963), which was broadcast from their 16 room Park Avenue apartment in New York. Panelist on 789 episodes of What's My Line? programs for CBS-TV (1950-1965).

Spoiler : I was looking for some OTR with the voice of news commentator Dorothy Kilgallen, and I found this list, which I'm sure is incomplete. Interestingly, she was the real-life wife of Richard Kolmar, who played "Boston Blackie" on radio. And, she plays herself on the listed episode of Boston Blackie. I wonder if she appeared on other episodes? This episode of "Leave It To The Girls" is a wonderful artifact of the era, and the attitudes / stereotypes of the public, regarding women and girls.
