Married and divorced to radio engineer Edward MacKaye Oates (?-?); Doctor Eugene Chapman (?-?); brain surgeon John French (1955-1989 his death). She worked at Singer Sewing Machines and a telephone company to pay for singing lessons. Soprano singer that began her career as a singer on radio at station WINS-New York before becomming a protege of Grace Moore in 1939. She was signed by the Chicago Opera Company in 1940; Metropolitan Opera star (1945-1975).
