DOROTHY MCGUIRE (1916 ~ 2001) McGuire received an Oscar nomination as Best Actress for "Gentleman's Agreement" (1947) and some of her other most memorable films included: "The Enchanted Cottage" (45), "A Tree Grows In Brooklyn" (45), "The Spiral Staircase" (46), "Till The End Of Time" (46), "Three Coins In The Fountain" (54), "Friendly Persuasion" (56), "Old Yeller" (57), "A Summer Place" (59), "Swiss Family Robinson" (60), "Susan Slade" (61), "Summer Magic" (63) and "The Greatest Story Ever Told" (65).

She had broken a leg three weeks prior to her death. Married to John Swope, a renowned photographer for Life magazine (1943-1979 his death). Mother of actors Topo and Mark Swope.

After she attended Omaha Junior College, she moved to Wellesley, Massachusetts in 1936 and studied at Pine Manor Junior College for two years. In 1938 she was on Broadway as understudy for Martha Scott before taking over the lead in Our Town. Screen debut in Claudia (1943). Last movie was made-for-television's The Last Best Year in 1990. McGuire, Gregory Peck, Jennifer Jones, Mel Ferrer and Joseph Cotten founded the La Jolla Playhouse. One of three actresses to play Sue Evans Miller on the CBS-Radio soap, Big Sister (1936-1952). Regular performer on radio programs including Joyce Jordan, M.D. for CBS, NBC and ABC (1936?-1955?). Marmee on Little Women for NBC-TV (1979). Continuing role on the CBS-TV soap, The Young And The Restless (?-1985-?).
