When I (GL Mercer) attended the Manassas Jazz Festival of December, 1972, my father and I picked him up from the airport and delivered him to his hotel. He was there to perform, but sadly for all of us, was too ill to do so and stayed in his hotel room during the three days of concerts. His last performance at Carnegie Hall in July of 1973.

Condon, Eddie (birth name was Albert Edwin Condon)
Born in Goodland, Indiana 11/16/1905; died 8/4/1973 of bone cancer. Left school at age 15. He taught himself to play the banjo and ukulele. In 1928 he moved to New York and became a musician and singer with bands of Hollis Peavey's Jazz Bandits; The Mound City Blue Blowers; Bobby Hackett; Artie Shaw. Formed his own band with kazoo-player Red McKenzie. Composer of songs including Home Cooking; That's A Serious Thing; We Called It Music. Host and guitarist on Eddie Condon's Jazz Concerts for the NBC-BLUE and ABC Radio Networks (1944-1945). He opened his Greenwich, New York night club in 1946. Host and star of Eddie Condon's Floor Show on NBC-TV (1949); CBS-TV (1950). In 1964 he was honored at Carnegie Hall: Salute To Eddie Condon.
