Born in Walla Walla, Washington 6/23/1910; died 1/27/1993 of cancer in McLean, Va. Attended Whitman College and The University of Washington. Began his career as a reporter for the Seattle Star. Became a UPI correspondent, then associate editor for Collier's magazine. Served in WWII as a foreign correspodnent.
Joined CBS in 1951, and became director of news on CBS-Radio and television. Anchor for CBS-TV Up To The Minute News in 1951. Moderator of Chronoscope for CBS-TV in 1953. During the 50's and 60's was known as "The Voice of Labor" because of his radio commentary show that was sponsored by the AFL-CIO. Moved to ABC-Washington in 1955 as their commentator until the late 60's. Senior correspondent for the Public Broadcast Laboratory series on PBS from the late 60's until his retirement in 1975.
