Murrow, Edward R. (birth name was Egbert Roscoe Murrow) Born in Pole Creek, North Carolina 4/25/1908; died 4/27/1965 of lung cancer in Pawling, New York. Married to Janet Brewster (1934-his death). He graduated from Washington State University in 1930, then joined CBS-Radio in 1935. He became director for CBS-Radio's European offices in 1937. Murrow's newscasts at the outbreak of WWII began with, "This is London..." Norman Corwin and Murrow produced An American In England on CBS (1942). Chief of CBS-Radio's foreign staff during WWII, then was the vice president/director of public affairs for CBS-Radio (1945-1947). News commentator on Edward R. Murrow With The News for CBS-Radio (1947-61). Commentator on Hear It Now for CBS-Radio (1950-1951).

In 1961 Murrow ended twenty-five years of his association with CBS when he was appointed by then president John Kennedy to head the United States Information Agency over-seeing the Voice of America. Emmy Awards in 1953 as Outstanding Personality, 1955, 1956, 1957 and 1959 as Best News Commentator. Received a Trustees' Award in 1966.
