Spoiler : ELEANOR POWELL (1912 ~ 1982) Powell was the greatest female tap dancer in the classic era of film (with Ann Miller coming in second). She is, perhaps, the greatest classic era female dancer, period. In "Broadway Melody of 1940", the 'Begin the Beguine' dance partnership between her and Fred Astaire is possibly the greatest tap sequence in film history. (Even Astaire was somewhat intimidated by Eleanor, worrying she might out-dance him. He stated "She puts 'em down like a man. No ricky-ticky-sissy stuff with Ellie".) She was very popular during the 1930s and early 1940s in other MGM musicals, such as: "Broadway Melody Of 1936" (1935), "Born To Dance" (36), "Broadway Melody Of 1938" (37), "Rosalie" (37), "Honolulu" (39), "Lady Be Good" (41), "Ship Ahoy" (42), "Thousands Cheer" (43), "I Dood It" (43), "Sensations Of 1945" (44) and "Duchess Of Idaho" (50). She was married to Glenn Ford from 1943 until 1959. Powell passed in 1982 at age 69.

Spoiler : Powell was featured on The Flying Red Horse Tavern for CBS-Radio (1935-1936). Following her marriage to Ford, she retired from acting, but following their divorce in 1959, she returned to performing in nightclubs.
