Spoiler : Roosevelt, Eleanor (birth name was Anna Eleanor Roosevelt) Born in New York City 10/11/1884; died 11/7/1962 from complications of tuberculosis in New York City. Married to former U.S. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1905-1945 his death). Mother of six children inclusing Anna and Elliott Roosevelt.

Spoiler : Mrs. Roosevelt was always active in civil affairs. Beginning in 1918, she was involved with the League of Women Voters and Women's Trade Union League. In 1921 she became active in Democratic party politics on behalf of her husband, Franklin who became president in 1932. During FDR's terms as president, she worked behind the scenes for coal miners, and youth during the Great Depression, She also sought racial equality, and resigned from the Daughters of the American Revolution when they would not allow Marian Anderson, a Black singer to sing during a concert at one of their meetings. Following FDR's death, she founded the Americans for Democratic Action, a liberal group within the Democratic Party. From 1945 to 1953, she was the United States delegate to the United Nations, chaired the commission that drafted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
