Born in Keokuk, Iowa 5/24/1883; died 11/1/1963 in New York City. Maxwell spent her youth in San Francisco, California, later lived in Paris, London and Italy. Organized the Monte Carlo Beach Club sometime in the 1920's. She began her lecture career in 1938, gave over eighty-seven lectures covering America in twenty states and Canada. Author of articles in leading magazines of her times before becomming a famous hostess and party-giver. Appeared in a series of short subject films at Warner Brothers beginning in 1940, then appeared in feature movies including Hotel For Women (1939); Elsa Maxwell's Public Deb #1 for 20th-Century FOX (1941).
