Spoiler : Born in New York City 10/16/1888; died 11/27/1953 in Boston, Massachusetts. Son of the stage actor James O'Neill. Attended Catholic Schools and the Betts Academy at Stamford, Connecticut, and then enrolled at Princeton but left after one year. Odd jobs followed including working at a mail order house in New York, panning for gold in the Honduras and a seaman aboard freighters. In 1912 contacted tuberculosis and while confined to a sanatorium became a playwrighter. After leaving the sanatorium studied at Harvard. First play was staged at the Provincetown, Massachusetts Wharf Theatre in 1916. First Broad- way success was his Pulitzer Prize winner, Beyond The Horizon in 1920. Upon his direction, his last play, Long Day's Journey Into Night was not to be produced until 25 years after his death. Winner of three Pulitzer Prize's and a 1936 Nobel Prize during his career. Many of his plays have been adapted to television including The Iceman Cometh and The Closing Door presented on the syndicated series, The Play Of The Week (1959-1961) and Strange Interlude presented on American Playhouse for PBS (1988).

Spoiler : Ormandy, Eugene (birth name was Jeno Blau) Born in Budapest, Hungary 11/18/1889; died 3/12/1985 of pneumonia in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Married to harpist Stephanie Goldner (?-? her death); Margaret Fitch (?-?). Ormandy was trained as a concert violinst beginning at age five at The Royal Academy of Music in Budapest, and is credited with being the youngest person to graduate from the academy. He came to America in 1921, and served as concertmaster at New York's Capitol Theatre. He became conductor of The Philadelphia Orchestra in 1936, a position he held until 1980 when ill health forced his semi-retirement. He conducted his last concert on January 10, 1984 at New York's Carnegie Hall.

Ormandy was conductor of the Minneapolis Symphony (1931-1936), NBC-Radio program (1933-1936). Conductor of the Philadelphia Orchestra from 1936 until he retired; on CBS-Radio programs (1936-1940); PSO Children's Concerts (1945-1948); CBS-Radio program (1953-1957). Guest conductor of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra on Omnibus for CBS-TV (1956).
