Pinza, Ezio (birth name was Fortunato Pinza)
Born in Rome, Italy 5/8/1895; died 5/9/1957 while asleep in Stamford, Connecticut. He had suffered a stroke and two heart attacks before his death. Italian Opera basso (1919-1948), that developed his voice riding a bicycle in Italy. Following service during WWI, he sang with Milan's La Scala Opera. He made his New York Metropolitan Opera Company debut 11/1/1926.

He became a Broadway star with South Pacific. On screen in Carnegie Hall (1948), appeared in movies (1950-1956) before he returned to Broadway in Fanny (1956).
Guest star on radio programs including The Metropolitan Opera and The Voice of Firestone for NBC and ABC during the 1930's until the middle 1950's; The Telephone Hour for NBC (1940-1957); Philco Radio Time (The Bing Crosby Show) for ABC (1946); The Big Show for NBC (1950-1952). Host of The Ezio Pinza Show on NBC-Radio (1953).
