He would goof around and make a couple of jokes and then Gleason would ask him to sing and he'd break out into the most beautiful baritone you ever herd. It was sort of like Jim Nabors breaking into song out of his Gomer Pyle character or Ken "Festus" Curtis when he sang with The Sons of the Pioneers. :-)

Judging by the number of his albums I've come across in used record shops and thrift stores he sold a huge number of records too.

Born in Haverhill, Massachusetts 4/19/1920; died 8/4/1978 of a heart attack in Spokane, Washington. Local performer in Boston when he was drafted to serve in the US armed forces during WWII. Following the end of the war, he performed in a comedy act on tour with Vaughn Monroe's band.
