Born in Palestine, Texas 11/9/1909; died 12/11/1984 in Jacksonville, Texas. Lowery was known as The Blind Whistler. At eighteen months he was rendered 98% blind by scarlet fever. He was educated at The Texas School for the Blind. Page for the Texas Senate (1929-1931).

He made his radio debut on WFAA-Dallas. In 1934, he moved to New York where he made his network radio debut on The Rudy Vallee Show for NBC (1934). Whistler on Vincent Lopez's radio programs for NBC and CBS (1934-1938). Musician with the Horace Heidt Orchestra until it disbanded (1938- 1953), then he worked with singer Dorothy Rae for a few years. Host of a WISH-Indianapolis radio program during the 1950s. His life story was published in 1983 titled, Whistling In The Dark.
