Born in Warsaw, Poland 1/3/1898; died 9/8/1956 in Beverly Hills, California. He came to America at an early age with his family, and grew up on New York's Lower East Side. He became an American citizen in 1934. He began studying piano as a child. He attended The Damrosch Conservatory, then he became bandmaster for the U.S. Marine Band in California.
