Born in Chicago, Illinois 4/18/1898; died 3/5/1972 in Ohio. Carroll was a mimic of female voices, that formed a comedy team with Glenn Rowell that was popular in vaudeville, then on radio at WLW-Cincinnati in the late 1920s on a program called Ford and Glenn.

The comedy team of Gene and Glenn were featured on radio programs including The Quaker Early Birds for NBC (1930-1932); Gene And Glenn for NBC (1934); again on NBC (1939-1941) with Carroll providing the voices of Lena and Jake on the program. The comedy team split up in 1943, and Carroll continued on as a local Cleveland radio personality until 1947 when he revived his Lena character, playing Lena the maid on The Fibber McGee And Molly Show for NBC-Radio (1947). That revival only lasted three months, but he appeared on Fibber McGee and Molly as Lena in 1955.
