I love all of Gershwin ' s work, but his seldom-heard Second Rhapsody is a special favorite. I remember when I first heard it on the radio (yes, radio); I was expecting another Rhapsody in Blue, and it totally blew me away. A good indicator of the direction his music was going when he was so soon taken from us.

One of the first true 20th Century composers to truly deserve entry into the "classical" genre. My favorite? Probably "An American In Paris" or "Rhapsody in Blue". Both marvelous works of art.

Gershwin, George (Jacob Gershvin) Born in Brooklyn, New York 9/28/1898; died 7/11/1937 following surgery for a brain tumor in Los Angeles, California. Brother of composers Arthur and Ira Gershwin. During Gershwin's short life, became one of America's most gifted composers. Composed many tunes including Rhapsody In Blue; Liza; The Man I Love; Love Is Here To Stay. Radio debut on The Eveready Hour for WEAF-New York during the early 1920's. Host of Music By Gershwin on the NBC and CBS Radio Networks, originating from station WJZ-New York (1934-1935).
