Spoiler : Hay, George D. (birth name was George Dewey Hay) Born in Attica, Indiana 11/9/1895; died 5/9/1968 in Norfolk, Virginia where he had been living since 1951 in retirement at his daughter's home. After WWI, he was traveling through the Ozark Mountain region as a reporter for The Memphis Commercial Appeal when became interested in country music. That interest inspired him to become an announcer on WMC-Memphis, Tennessee, then he moved to WLS-Chicago where he became the announcer for The National Barndance.

Spoiler : In 1927, he was hired as program director for WSM-Nashville where he became the "Solem Old Judge," the founder and emcee of The Grand Ole' Opry on WSM. The Solem Old Judge nickname came from his by-line when he was a court reporter. On screen in two movies as himself in Grand Ole Opry (1940); Hoosier Holiday (1943). Elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1966.
