He was an extraordinary actor of his time. Cinema as we know it was still very young. Guys like George Raft, were among the pioneers of early film acting.. Bravo !

I like all his movies but 2 stand out the most manpower with Edward G Robinson and a bullet for Joey and I believe the part he turned down was the Maltese Falcon good actor and a nice guy you're right he was up there then something happened he turn down some good parts I seem to remember that he turned down the part in Casablanca too

Raft, George (birth name was George Ranft) Born in New York City 9/26/1903; died 11/24/1980 from complications of leukemia and a stroke in Hollywood, California. Married and divorced to actress Grace Mulrooney (?-1916-?). He began his career as a prizefighter and a dancer. Screen debut in Queen Of The Night Clubs (1929). Last movie was The Man With Bogart's Face (1980).
