George Walsh (George Russell Walsh)

Enlisted in the Air Corps in 1942: He was assigned to AFRS and often hosted USO shows. While still in the service, he was stationed at Roswell, New Mexico, and got a moonlighting job at station KSWS, where he was first to report on the UFOs in the area (1947). George was a staff announcer at KNX in Los Angeles 1952-86. His main duties were routine announcing but he also worked on quite a few of the CBS network drama shows originating from Columbia Square. He also worked as an occasional news anchor. In the 1960s he was the voice of Smokey (the) Bear (yes, we know the word "the" was accidentally put there by a songwriter). After his retirement from KNX his voice was used for several attractions at Disneyland. Prior to his enlistment in the Army, he worked at station WHAS in Louisville. Shows in which he was heard: Gunsmoke, Suspense, Escape, On Stage, Crime Classics, Broadway is My Beat, The Whistler, Rogers of the Gazette, Romance, and Johnny Dollar (pilots for the second series only).cda
