Beautiful! I just finished watching about 6 Astaire and Rogers films just before FilmStruck pulled them down. I love how she always reacted the same way: Whatever she thought of Astaire's character, if he was dancing, she just had to mirror his moves. You can yell at him in a minute.

Ms. Rogers versatility could be said to be unsurpassed, musicals, comedy, anything she untoork was exceptional. Again, a Pre-Coder with a very long and engaged career from her first screen appearance in 1929 with a short entitled "A Day of a Man of Affairs" preceding on to her last television appearance in the TV series "Hotel" in 1987. Loved when she got to play a nasty as in 1954's "Black Widow" with Van Heflin, Gene Tierney and her Pre-Code compatriot, George Raft.

Seeing her this young reminds me of what I read in Fred Astaire's biography. He and Ginger actually met and worked on Broadway before either came to Hollywood. They had lots of chemistry and even tried a romance, but apparently Fred couldn't handle Ginger. I honestly think he was afraid of her. Like she was too frank, blunt, competitive for him. If you look at who he did marry later, complete opposite of Ginger. However, that chemistry never disappeared and is probably why they were such a successful pair. That and Ginger knew early on that she would have to work her arss off with Fred as he would accept nothing less. Luckily for us, she was more than up to the task.

Rogers (1911 – 1995) was an American actress, dancer, and singer best remembered for performing in RKO's musical films with Fred Astaire. Throughout the 1930s, Rogers made nine films with Astaire, among which were some of her biggest successes, such as Swing Time (1936) and Top Hat (1935).

After two commercial failures with Astaire, Rogers began to branch out into dramatic films and comedies. Her acting was well received by critics and audiences, and she became one of the biggest box-office draws of the 1940s. Her performance in Kitty Foyle (1940) won her the Academy Award for Best Actress. Rogers remained successful throughout the 1940s and at one point was Hollywood's highest-paid actress, but her popularity had peaked by the end of the decade. Turning down two great roles probably didn’t help: Ginger turned down lead roles in To Each His Own (1946) and The Snake Pit (1948). Both of these roles went on to be played to great acclaim by Olivia de Havilland, who won Best Actress for the first role and should have won same award for the latter.

All of her five marriages lasted under a decade. Her longest marriage was her last, to William Marshall, which lasted eight years. She never had children. Screen debut in Young Man Of Manhattan (1930). First film with Fred Astaire was Flying Down To Rio (1933). Oscar for Kitty Foyle (1940). Last movie was Harlow (1965). Rogers was the fashion consultant for J.C. Penneys during the 1970's.

Jack Benny and Rogers co-hosted the first Packard Hour on NBC-Radio (9/8/1936). Fred Astaire was to be the host, but hadn't returned from Europe. Rogers was a guest star on just about every popular variety radio program there was during the 1930s to the 1950s, same for television from the 1950s until her death. She also acted in many dramatic roles on radio and TV. Host of her own 1958 TV special.
