Greta Garbo -was such a wonderful actress after her very last film -Two faced Woman-which did not do good with Hollywood and it was Greta Garbo's very first comedy I loved the movie but Hollywood did not and Greta Garbo did not like what Hollywood to say and she felt betrayed so she just told Hollywood -I want to be alone --and left Hollywood for good she would never do another movie again Alfred Hitchcock tried to talk her into making a comeback in one of his classic movies but she just told him --I want to be alone--but I am so happy that Greta Garbo lived such a long life she was such a wonderful actress !!! and will be missed by her fans who loved her and adored her.

Garbo had a great profile but full face, I just don't get it. she had no lips, a cold and often mean expression. no eyebrows. Just don't understand all the fuss.....not when you had Hedy Lamarr and other great beauties to brag about

She was Oscar nominated as Best Actress three times: for "Romance" and "Anna Christie" - both in the same year (1930); "Camille" (36) and "Ninotchka" (39). She received an Honorary Academy Award in 1954 for her "luminous and unforgettable screen performances". Extremely popular in silent films, sound allowed for Garbo to become an even bigger star, although her popularity was always greater in Europe than in the United States. “Garbo talks!” was MGM’s promotional tagline for Anna Christie (1930), Garbo’s first sound film. Her first spoken words on screen—“Give me a viskey”—revealed a husky, resonant voice that added to her allure and her somewhat androgynous persona that has appealed to both genders throughout the years.

It was also one of two films she made in 1930—the other being Romance—for which Garbo received an Academy Award nomination. She poignantly portrayed an aging ballerina in the all-star classic Grand Hotel (1932), the film in which she first uttered her signature line, “I want to be alone.” Her stardom was such at this point that she was billed merely as “Garbo” for the film.

As with many pre-Code Hollywood films, Mata Hari was censored upon its reissue after strict enforcement of the Hays Code began in mid-1934, including Rosanoff's first visit to Mata's apartment. The fade-out that ends the scene was moved up, eliminating views of Mata after she changes into a see-through negligee, more love-making, and the clear implication of a consummation after the fade-out.

According to the MPAA/PCA file, in December 1931, New York censors ordered many eliminations from the film. The Atlanta Better Film Committee reviewed the film in January 1932 and gave it a "not recommended" rating. The reviewer commented, "I wish this picture could be destroyed. Garbo, original name Greta Lovisa Gustafsson, (1905-1990) was one of the most glamorous and popular motion-picture stars of the 1920s and ’30s. From 1922 to 1924 she studied at the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm, and in 1924 she played a major role in Gösta Berlings Saga (“The Story of Gösta Berling”). The film’s director, Mauritz Stiller, gave her the name Garbo, and in 1925 he secured her a contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in Hollywood.
