altenborn, H. V. (birth name was Hans Von Kaltenborn)
Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin 7/9/1878; died 6/15/1965 of heart trouble in New York City. Married to German Baroness Olga Von Nordenflych (1910-1965 his death). He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Harvard. Kaltenborn began his career as a newspaper reporter with The Brooklyn Daily Eagle (?-1922).

With his clipped speech was one of the first radio commentators, became known as the dean of radio commentators. First broadcasts were on WJZ-Newark (1922); WEAF-New York (1923); WAHG-Long Island (1925). Commentator on CBS-Radio programs including Current Events (1927-1939); NBC- Radio programs (1940-55). Provided on the site broadcasting of sounds and comments as he hid in a haystack of the Spanish Civil War for CBS-Radio (1936-1939). During the 1938 Munich Crisis, Kaltenborn lived in a CBS-Radio studio for eighteen days and nights with only onion soup to eat. Author of, "Fifty Fabulous Years" (1950).
