Born in New York City; died 12/28/2004 at age 85 from complications of pneumonia at the UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. Gast graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in speech. During WWII, he served with the Army Signal Corp. He began his writing career during the late 1940s writing for New York based radio programs including the Mutual Network serial drama, Real Stories from Real Life, the Mutual and NBC Radio Network soap, Front Page Farrell.
