Spoiler :
Just a recollection of Harry Elders.
When I graduated from stagehand to writer/director at Pilot Productions in Evanston, Illinois in the late 1950s, the time came when I was asked to decide who should be narrator for the first promotional film I was wrangling.
"Could we get Harry Elders?" Well, yeah, we could.
I was awed, because, born in 1934, I'd heard his voice on the air just about all my life. When Harry came in, he acted as if I was really a director, not just somebody pretending to be one, which it felt like to me, and did what I asked of him. Amazing. Thanks, Harry.
We had further contact in the next couple of years, and he was always a pleasure to work with.
Pilot had a number of the Golden Age of Radio folks around, fellows like Don Gallagher and Ken Nordine. Our studio manager was the extraordinary John Gouldin. who'd done the maniacal laugh on Inner Sanctum. (I think)
The Golden Age of Radio lasted only about as long as the Old West. Kinda fun to recall.
