Paar served in the US Army during WWII, was assigned to entertain troops in the South Pacific, and during that time he roomed with actor Jackie Cooper, Paar was discovered by Jack Benny on Guadalcanal in 1945 while Benny was entertaining troops. A friendship followed with Benny aiding Paar's career. Screen debut in Variety Time (1948). Last movie was Down Among the Sheltering Palms (1953). In later years before his death, Parr owned a TV station in Maine.

Born in Canton, Ohio 5/1/1918; died 1/27/2004 at his Greenwich, Connecticut home. He had suffered a stroke in March of 2003. Married to Miriam (chocolate bar) Hershey Wagner (1943-2004 his death). Paar stuttered as a child, curing himself by placing buttons in his mouth and reading aloud. Paar began his career as a radio announcer at WIBM-Jackson, Michigan; WIRE- Indianapolis, Indiana; WKBN-Youngstown, Ohio; WCAE-Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; WGAR-Cleveland, Ohio.
