Born in Huddersfield, England 5/15/1909; died 7/27/1984 of a heart attack in Lausanne, Switzerland. Married and divorced actress-writer Pamela Kellino (1941-1962, again 1962-1964); Clarissa Kaye (1971-1984 his death). Attended Marlborough College and Cambridge University studying architecture. He received a degree in architecture at Cambridge in 1931, and the same year turned to acting on stage. Screen debut in Late Extras (1935). He came to America in 1947, and made his Hollywood screen debut in Caught (1948). He became an American citizen in 1949.
Last movie was The Assisi Underground released in 1985.
