Spoiler : JANE WYMAN (1917 ~ 2007) Wyman won the Best Actress Academy Award for her performance in "Johnny Belinda" (1948) in which her character was a deaf-mute. When she accepted her Oscar, she quipped amusingly: "I accept this, very gratefully, for keeping my mouth shut once. I think I'll do it again". She was also Oscar nominated as Best Actress for "The Yearling" (46), "The Blue Veil" (51) and "Magnificent Obsession" (54). Later, during the 1980s, she starred in the long running TV show Falcon Crest. She also hosted an anthology television series - Jane Wyman Presents... the Fireside Theater from 1955 to '58. She was married to actor / former President Ronald Reagan from 1940 to '49 - (her third of four husbands). Her film career lasted from 1932 until 1969 (not including TV). Other films included: "Public Wedding" (37), "Brother Rat" (38), "Torchy Blane...Playing with Dynamite" (39), "Flight Angels" (40), "Honeymoon For Three" (41), "Larceny, Inc." (42), "The Doughgirls" (44), "The Lost Weekend" (45), "One More Tomorrow" (46), "Night and Day" (46), "Stage Fright" (50), "The Glass Menagerie" (50), "Three Guys Named Mike" (51), "Here Comes the Groom" (51 - with Oscar winning song - In the Cool, Cool, Cool of the Evening), "The Story of Will Rogers" (52), "Let's Do It Again" (53), "All That Heaven Allows" (55), "Lucy Gallant" (55), "Pollyanna" (60), "Bon Voyage!" (62) and "How to Commit Marriage" (69). Jane passed in 2007 at age 90.

Spoiler : For "Johnny Belinda" (1948), Jane Wyman became the first person, actor or actress since the silent era to win an Oscar without uttering a word, after sound was created, just before "The Jazz Singer" was filmed and released, 21 years earlier, in 1927. Wyman's Oscar acceptance speech is reportedly the shortest on record for Best Actress: "I accept this, very gratefully, for keeping my mouth shut once. I think I'll do it again."

Spoiler : Wyman regarding attending the ceremony: "We were just two rows behind Irene Dunne. There was something about the line of her neck that convinced me she was going to get the prize. I was slumped low in my seat, sort of trying to hide so that I could sneak out. I was so sure I wouldn't win that when I heard my name called out, I didn't recognize it. I didn't get up. But Jerry Wald poked me, and my handbag dropped to my lap. My lipstick and everything went rolling onto the floor.
