Jeanette MacDonald was an American singer and actress best remembered for her musical films of the 1930s with Maurice Chevalier (The Love Parade, Love Me Tonight, The Merry Widow and One Hour With You) and Nelson Eddy (Naughty Marietta, Rose-Marie, and Maytime). During the 1930s and 1940s she starred in 29 feature films, four nominated for Best Picture Oscars (The Love Parade, One Hour with You, Naughty Marietta and San Francisco), and recorded extensively, earning three gold records. She later appeared in opera, concerts, radio, and television. MacDonald was one of the most influential sopranos of the 20th century, introducing opera to movie-going audiences and inspiring a generation of singers.

Beautiful woman. My favorite, and her best with Nelson Eddy, is "the New Moon. Get on line and see' their duet of "Wanting You" But with that entire score, how could they lose.

Jeanette MacDonald was 61 when she passed away. It incorrectly notes her as being 62. She would not have turned 62 until the June after her January passing in 1965. Not a major error but in the interests of accuracy, worth noting.

JEANETTE MACDONALD (1903 ~ 1965) MacDonald had a nice soprano singing voice that she used to great advantage during the 1930s in Paramount and MGM musicals. During the first half of the 30s she was often paired with Maurice Chevalier (at Paramount) and during the second half of the decade she was frequently paired with Nelson Eddy (at MGM). Her films included: "The Love Parade" (1929), "One Hour With You" (32), "Love Me Tonight" (32), "The Merry Widow" (34), "Naughty Marietta" (35), "Rose-Marie" (36), "San Francisco" (36), "Maytime" (37), "Sweethearts" (38), "New Moon" (40), "Bitter Sweet" (40) and "Three Daring Daughters" (48). She passed in 1965 at age 61 from heart issues.

Married to actor Gene Raymond (1937-1965 her death). Hollywood's "First Lady Of Song" began her career as a chorus girl in New York (1921). Screen debut in The Love Parade (1929). MacDonald and Nelson Eddy are remembered for their wonderful musicals of the 1930's.
