Spoiler : Jeff Chandler (Ira Grossel) Born Brooklyn, New York, December 15, 1918 Died Culver City, California, June 17, 1961 Age 42 (surgical complications) Amazingly, after being discharged from the Army in 1946, he went to Hollywood and found work as a radio actor. It was when he was playing Philip Boynton on Our Miss Brooks that he got the attention of Universal Pictures, which led to a new career as a motion picture actor in 1948 (he had a one-line part in Johnny O'Clock [1947]). His death was blamed on medical malpractice. It was a simple spinal operation.

Spoiler : It's said that Jeff Chandler was one of the few to get a job as a radio actor just on his looks. He was a husky 6'4" with hardly any fat.

Spoiler : Happy birthday, Jeff Chandler! When Chandler took to the silver screen in the 1950s he became a popular leading man. On radio however, he played the shy biology teacher and object of Miss Brooks' affection, Mr. Boynton, in the radio comedy Our Miss Brooks. He also took on the role of private eye Michael Shayne.

Spoiler : His Michael Shane was so, so different than Wally Maher's was, so I've been curious why the writing style changed so much. They sound like 2 different characters and shows. I love him as Mr. Boynton, as he really comes across as the shy and socially awkward man who is so oblivious of Miss Brooks's intentions!
